My name is Steve Klabnik, and I'm an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Computer Science. I've had a passion for technology my entire life. Starting with GW-BASIC when I was still in grade school, I've since programmed in HyperCard, C, C++, Visual Basic, Java, Perl, PHP, SQL, Javascript, Haskell, and D. My current interests lie in functional programming, compilers, web applications, and operating systems. I've been using Linux on my desktop for almost two years now, and am committed to the ideals of the free software movement.
I'm also one of the founding members of Pitt Geeks, a club on campus. We're a social club for anyone who enjoys technology. Most of our members are Computer Science students or engineers. We do various events every year, including lectures on technology (Pizza and Programming), LAN parties, and programming competitions. Check out my projects page for more details of my involvement.
Computers aren't my only interest, however. I ride my mountain bike almost every day, play many, many different board games and miniature wargames, and play Guitar Hero.
I'll finish my undergraduate education in the fall of 2009, and hope to get a job in the industry with a company that shares my views on free software. As the Internet becomes more and more important in our daily lives, open communication and interpolation becomes more important as well. I'd like to do work that is looking forward to the future, rather than continuing the mistakes of the past.
